Everyone should be required to take a picture during their life,
It would make you see the world, rather than just looking at it.

Stop..Listen...What was that ?

In very early spring I ventured down unbeaten paths searching for anything that I could aim my camera at!
Waterfowl were abundant on the river, but something pulled me away from water to an old farm road. I have photographed White Tailed Deer in the past but always in the fall, as luck would have it I spotted movement in the woods as I drove past. I parked and walked back slowly, the Doe heard me and stopped...
From here the images tell a short but very interesting story...I guess if you were there it would be better!
Whats that noise!

It came from over there!
Ok! its just some goof with a camera!
Say Cheese!

Lophoodytes cucullatus

Spring is slowly returning to Muskoka, the river is open and an abundant number of Hooded Mergansers
are in full mating regalia .
I was able to capture these images over the last two days, one of which was rather overcast as you will see.

Hope you enjoy, and if you are a regular viewer please sign up as a follower and don't be afraid to comment!

Floral Designs in Macro

For many Macro photography is about capturing phenomena, items, and events that cannot easily be seen by the naked eye. A water droplet falling into a pool or bubble rising up in champagne
I like to think of it as finding detail in larger objects...like flowers.
Historically, the definition of macro was that the image had to be on a scale of 1:1
But that definition (with digital technology) has changed to be images of small areas of larger subject or of small subjects. Anything can be a macro subject but my favorites are insects and flowers.
I hope to show you some appealing images of both over the next while starting with the images below.
I'm also proud to say the flowers images below are all shot in my garden!
Lavatera

Common Pansy

Marigold Bolero

Hosta flower
California Poppy

Toad Lilly

Dead Wood

These Images are all in the theme of trees passed or dormant
I have found that trees minus leaves often are much more interesting
you get to see the skeleton, the real backbone of what the tree really is!
These images have all been done in monochrome with different effects
provided by photoshop

Flight by night

These images were all taken in the late evening as the Ruby Throated Hummingbirds prepared to get through another cool night.

As evening comes, on wings so glossy
A vibrant sound is heard,
With a blur as dark as coal,
Could this be the Hummingbird?

She swerved and dove
Across the moon so gleaming white
Towards the a sweet scent,  her intent?
 to survive another dark night.
